Prior to Rome, Perugia was already a thriving town with 5 storical quarters closed-in by its Etruscan town walls. There were 7 portals allowing visitors to enter this wonderful town when Rome was no more than a mere campground with a few village huts. The most popular portal used to enter Perugia was Porta Pulchra. When you enter this portal, the exterior that was remodeled in 1475 by Agostino di Duccio will engulf you. Once you enter, you will find the Basilica of St. Dominic on the right.

As you stroll along the streets of Perugia, you will envision life as it once was in the 15th century as you gaze upon such architectural designs as Palace of the Old University and Palace of the People's Captain. Perugia is full of historical buildings, which draw visitors from all over the world including the 13th century Major Fountain in the center of Priors Palace. The Priors Palace is one of the most popular tourist spots in all of Perugia. It is home to the National Museum of Umbria where you can see many unique artifacts from the entire area.

Other popular landmarks in Perugia include the stronghold of Rocca Paolina that was built during the 15th century and The Oratory of St. Bernardino, which is a magnificent masterpiece of the Renaissance era.

While you are exploring Perugia, you will also want to partake of some of the unique and local restaurants that offer a taste of Umbria such as La Locanda dei Golosi. La Locanda dei golosi offers accommodations for overnight stays, the restaurant that offers Granny Annetta’s traditional recipes, and other amenities such as tennis courts, swimming pool, and guided tours.

Other unique restaurants and farmhouses that you should visit while you in Perugia include Pegaso, Scilla, Villa Taticchi, to name just a few.
