An organization of women who say they are fed up with guys with scruffy faces and have resolved to stop shaving until their guys do has named the "scruffiest cities" in the U.S.
Following a survey commissioned by NoScruf.org of the shaving habits of 5,000 men in 25 cities, Houston men were named the nation's "smoothest," averaging 4.81 shaves per week. The top five "smooth" cities were Houston, Indianapolis, Fort Worth, St. Paul and Portland. Houston guys are shaving off 36.5 tons of hair each year-that's the equivalent weight of 216 sumo wrestlers.
By contrast, Baltimore was named the scruffiest city, with guys shaving a paltry 3.65 times a week-a mere eight tons a year, or just 47 sumo wrestlers. St. Louis, Seattle, New York and Washington, D.C. rounded out the list of the scruffiest cities surveyed.
Guys shouldn't scoff at the notion that smooth cheeks mean smooth moves with the ladies. Only 3 percent of women say that stubble is their preferred look on a guy and 80 percent of women prefer a clean-shaven face when getting close. It may be no coincidence that, according to the survey, Houston men are happiest with their love lives, while more than half of the men in Baltimore, the nation's scruffiest city, would like to have intimate relations more regularly.
True to their pledge, the women of NoScruf.org are willing to grow their armpit and leg hair until their voices are heard. They recently enlisted the help of television stars Kelly Monaco ("General Hospital" and "Dancing With the Stars") and Brooke Burke (E!'s "Wild On" and "Rock Star") to get their point across, staging a protest rally in New York City.
"Women have been suffering in silence and tolerating scratchy faces for far too long and I encourage supporters everywhere to join the NoScruf movement," said Kelly Monaco. "We at NoScruf have a message for scruffy guys out there who want to get close to us: 'In your dreams, stubble-boy!'"

The women plan to keep their movement alive until the men in their lives are clean shaven.
