The former Soviet Union covers eight time zones. To put that into perspective, that is roughly the distance between London and San Francisco. In other words, that is equivalent to crossing the Continental United States plus the Atlantic Ocean.
That’s a big piece of real estate – the largest country in the world.
For this reason, it makes sense to focus on a particular area when making your search inquiries.
For example, let us say you are writing to women from Kyrgyzstan and Belarus, respectively. Kyrgyzstan is a four-hour plane ride from Moscow in a southeasterly direction. Belarus is a one-hour plane ride from Moscow in a westerly direction.
It is like dating a woman from San Diego and a woman from Toronto at the same time. It can be done, but it is not easy. It is easier to concentrate on one geographic area such as Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Siberia, or Southern Russia.
It is always difficult to generalize about people or geographic areas. My purpose for mentioning this area of consideration is to give you an idea of why you may want to concentrate on one geographic area versus another.
For example, why would you want to consider a woman from Siberia? Well, during the Stalinist purges, many of the intellectuals were sent to the gulags of Siberia.
Also, because of the amazing amount of natural resources of the area, many engineers and other technical people have gravitated there. Consequently, if you are looking for an intelligent, well-educated woman, there is an amazing concentration of them in Siberia.
Southern Russia is reputed to have the most beautiful women in the world. I traveled to Volgograd (formerly Stalingrad) in the summer and I can vouch for the reputation of Southern Russian women.
It was very hot and most of the girls were dressed in shorts or short skirts. It looked like a town full of Las Vegas show girls.
Women from Eastern European cities like Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kiev, and Minsk are more cosmopolitan in outlook. Even if they do not live in one of the big cities, they may live in a city of one hundred thousand people or more and they may travel to the major cultural centers to attend university or to visit or shop.
Women from Central Asia were in the direct path of the Mongol invaders and many of them have high cheekbones and Asiatic eyes as well as the long legs and curvaceous figures of Southern Russian women.
Many Russians of European decent were moved to Central Asia during World War II when Stalin moved the productive capacity of the nation there to avoid the German advance.
Consequently, the women of Central Asia share a lot in common with the intellect and education of the engineers and technicians of Siberia. Because of their exposure to a male dominated Islamic culture, they are reported to be more deferential to men than other Russian women.
