How do you come up with gift ideas? It can be such a headache, even if you know the recipient well. I know I dread shopping for my husband. However, with a little thought I generally come up with something perfect for him without resorting to his Amazon Wish List. I do so love to surprise him!
I start by thinking of what the person I am shopping for enjoys. My husband can be hard to shop for, since he rarely says what he wants, but I know he enjoys a wide range of subjects. Like me, he’s something of a geek, so gadgets appeal to him quite a bit.
He also enjoys antiques. I don’t mean flowery tea cups… although he can appreciate them, I don’t think he’d enjoy one as a gift. Just not his style. But he loves old tools, ironwork, old books and so forth.
That’s the kind of thought process you need to go through to find the perfect gift for someone you know. Go through their interests until you think of something you would enjoy giving, then find it!
But what if you don’t know the person that well? There are a variety of gifts you can give that are thoughtful and appeal to most people. The trick is to find things that they are not too likely to have bought for themselves. Useful gadgets can be quite handy.
Of course, there’s always that old standby, chocolate! Pretty much everyone enjoys chocolate. Picking out a high quality selection is sure to impress.
Anything that is a little luxurious is a good idea too. You know that pretty much everyone loves to be indulged. Bath salts work well for most women, although you have to decide if they are appropriate. They may not be if you are shopping for a coworker, for example.
Consider the time of year. In the summer, barbeque accessories may be just perfect. Maybe you know the person loves sports.
For the coworker with a sense of humor and love of pets, I adore the Office Fish Tank I found on Amazon. You can’t help but smile. Just about anything humorous and related to working is great for coworkers. Just be careful if it’s the boss you’re shopping for!
Shopping for gifts isn’t the easiest thing in the world to do, but you can get great gifts for just about anyone with some careful thought. Just think about what they’ll enjoy, haul out the sense of humor when necessary, and quit stressing about it.
