Intrigued by the flux of knock-off perfumes available on the market today? It might be a little difficult to fight off the temptation to experiment with these things. After all, they seem cheaper than the perfumes that they imitate. And, they seemingly smell as good as the original, right? At first sight, they seem like a mighty fine bargain! Or not. Think about this for a minute or two.

In the eyes of the Better Business Bureau, some knock-off perfumes qualify as counterfeit merchandise. Patent laws in the United States serve to protect a business from losing sales to copy-cat (and sometimes inferior) products. So when you're looking at a bottle of knock-off perfume, you just might be looking at something that was illegally produced, most likely supported by, funded by, or otherwise involved in terrorism and other similar crimes.

Aside from the legal aspect of the perfume business, consumers may actually put themselves at risk by using knock-off perfumes. Because they're produced offshore, knock-off's aren't legally required to conform to US regulations set by the Food & Drug Administration. As a result, you may be faced with a product that causes a rash, illness, or worse - death (although that's highly improbable). The important thing to know is that US regulations set by the FDA exist for a reason; and that's to prevent things like product related rashes, illnesses, and/or death (again, improbable, yet possible).

From a customer's point of view, these products simply don't compare to their genuine originals. They're not as potent; they don't last as long; and they don't really smell like the real thing. At best, their lingering scent may last thirty to forty minutes whereas the real deal can last all day, even into the evening. Quite simply, they're not worth the money and their manufacturers know that. That's why they're priced so cheaply.

You don't have these concerns when you purchase genuine perfumes. Genuine perfume follows FDA regulations. If it's imported from abroad, it's done so legally. In addition, genuine perfumes cause little to no allergic reaction (depending upon what allergies are present in the consumer), and their scents last longer. There's a reason why they're priced higher than their knock-offs. That's because they have a higher concentration of fragrance oils. Genuine perfume just won't lose its effect in half an hour like the others do.

Some people are mistakenly under the impression that knock-offs will save them money. In the long run, genuine perfumes are the real money savers because of their concentrations. When a perfume has a high fragrance oil concentration, less of it is necessary, so it lasts longer.

For example, you might find a knock off perfume spray available for sale at for five dollars and a small 4 ounce bottle of a genuine fragrance available for a hundred dollars. You would need to use an entire bottle of the knock off scent just to get the same concentration in one dab of its genuine version. And as you can see, that's no bargain at all!
