Is webtv worth purchasing, how can it compete with cable or satellite

I first looked into webtv back when dialup and 15 inch monster monitors were the standard and I thought how could watch tv from my computer possibly be worth watching. I mean if the picture is
only 15 inches and I am using a dialup connection is it even possible to watch tv from my computer. If wondering whether it would be worth watching wasn't bad enough I was left with hundreds of choices from where to get webtv. There just seemed to be too many outlets to purchase the product from.

This was probably about 6 to 7 years ago when I first considered getting webtv, with all of these questions and no answer to really be found I just figured I never would get webtv, but then about 4 months ago there was an article about webtv and a particular version of webtv.
